The Hip-Hop FANDOM Project

Welcome to The Hip-Hop FANDOM Project! Our mission is to create fan-driven and informative communities for Hip-Hop pioneers and creators. The internet is a leading tool that helps dictate popular culture and keeps fans up-to-date. While the internet isn't forever, we will use FANDOM to gather similar passionate people to show our appreciation and help fellow fans keep up-to-date on their favorite artists.Hip Hop is more than just music; it's a culture and a lifestyle. It reflects the current moment and gives a voice to the disenfranchised. We want to document the history in the making.Currently, the FANDOM website lacks rap content, much less Black-created art/media. Representation is crucial and feeds into structural, systemic and social issues of whose voices get heard or sidelined. Whose narratives are stereotyped and silenced or, alternatively, empowered and push beyond identity markers/barriers.We also want to search for any alternative free, wiki-hosting services, preferably created and run by POC. The current FANDOM interface is strict on what content is hosted (including censorship and no lyrics).

Founder's Note

I started the Hip-Hop FANDOM Project on April 16, 2025, as a way to encourage more content on rap pioneers and creators. Although wiki communities may not withstand time, I strongly believe it helps in gathering similar passionate people and creating safe fan spaces, especially for those who are frequently underrepresented.I think one message rings true, for users who do this labor for free: it's for the love of the culture and the art. No matter your skin color, sexuality, or background, we are connected through something transformative, powerful and historical. When something inspires or moves you so deeply, oftentimes it ignites action or questions your worldview.I believe that the brightest minds aren't the ones who seem to know everything. It's the ones who are curious and eager to learn; who accept mistakes and understand they don't know everything; who see something no one else does and helps break boundaries, even if unintentional.
